Some people like to buy large freezers for storing frozen items. This lets you prepare large meals in advance or stock up on food. Typically people put freezers in their basement or garage. Chest Freezers Chest freezers have doors on the top. These types of freezers are most efficient because less cold air comes out when the door is open. Chest freezers are harder to use because you have to bend over top and rearrange food to find things. Chest freezers are better suited for people who like to buy large quantities of food at one time and store food for longer periods. These freezers take up more floor space (compared to upright freezers) and chest freezers need to be manually defrosted. Chest freezers tend to have less frost build-up than uprights. Upright Freezers Upright freezers look similar to refrigerators because they have a swinging door and shelves. Uprights are easier to use and some uprights have automatic defrost capability. Uprights also take up less floor space. Uprights usually cost more to buy. Uprights also cost more to operate then chest freezers. An upright is less energy efficient because the cold air spill out of the freezer when the door is opened. Also, warmer air and more humid air can enter the freezer because the freezer stands higher (cold air falls and warm air rizes). Because more humidity can get in the freezer, uprights tend to have more frost. Uprights are convenient for people who like to add or remove smaller quantities of food. Options / Features:
